McDonald’s knows how to do it!

Background

The base for McDonald’s was created by the McDonald brothers Richard and Maurice, when they opened their first restaurant in San Bernardino in California in 1940. After a complete rearrangement and redesign, they had a new opening of their fast-food restaurant with self-service in 1948. Five years later, the golden M (so-called “Golden Arches”) adorned a restaurant for the first time. Actually, McDonald’s creation was “on accident”. In 1954, Ray Kroc only wanted to sell some milkshake-mixers to the McDonald brothers. But then he was so fascinated by their restaurant and its concept of fast food with high quality and friendly service with low prices, that he acquired the license to open restaurants with the same principle. So he opened the first McDonald’s restaurant in 1955 in Des Plaines, Illinois. The franchise-system of McDonald’s was born! (more…)

Ben & Jerry’s around the whirled

Giving gifts to others on its own birthday…

Every year since Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield founded Ben & Jerry’s in 1978, the ice cream company celebrates its annual birthday by having a “Free Cone Day” at their shops. Mmmh…FREE Cone Days?! Sounds awesome, doesn’t it? …Well…it IS!

It basically serves as an appreciation gift for Ben & Jerry’s customers and takes place around April. In addition, they also collect donations on that day for local social organizations. The most recent Free Cone Day was on April 12, 2011, so stay tuned for the next. They always celebrate that day in all different countries, not only in the US, but also in the UK or the most important for us: in Germany.Over one million free cones are given away each year which led to the company’s slogan:

At the very beginning, when I decided to blog about Ben & Jerry’s, I just googled “Ben & Jerry’s” and “Ben & Jerry’s scandal”. I opened many many tabs.

Anyone wants FAIR ICE CREAM?

In 2006, Ben & Jerry’s launched the world’s first ever Fairtrade vanilla ice cream and three years later three more of their flavors achieved Fairtrade status (Vanilla Toffee Crunch, Chocolate Macademia and Chunky Monkey). In 2010 six more were certified and by the end of this year every ingredient in each ice cream they produce and sell in Germany that can be Fairtrade certified, will be.

But…What is Fairtrade?

Fairtrade is about making sure people get their fair share of the pie. – by Jerry Greenfield (more…)

Ben & Jerry’s Schweddy Balls

No one can resist my Schweddy Balls!

…Got you interested and laughing about the post’s headline and/or the quote by Alec Baldwin? If yes, then you might have the same sense of humor as many “Saturday Night Live”-Fans around the world. “Schweddy Balls”, that’s what Ben & Jerry’s new seasonal flavor of vanilla icecream with a hint of rum, loaded with fudge covered rum and milk chocolate malt balls is named. A flavor which is supposed to hallow classic “Saturday Night Live” skit comedy. The SNL skit which purposely had double meaning introduced actor Alec Baldwin as a guest of a radio cooking show where Pete introduces his baked treats otherwise known as Schweddy’s cheese, pop corn and rum balls. Sounds harmless, doesn’t it?
